E-commerce website development in South Africa

An online store that is easy to run: a clean catalogue, local payment options, and the automations that keep orders and customers organised. From R22,000.

What is included in an online store

Our Skyline package is built for businesses that sell online. It starts from R22,000 and includes:

  • A custom store design built around your brand, not a template, and fully mobile responsive.
  • Product catalogue and categories that are easy for you to update. Product uploads are R15 a product, so we can load the catalogue for you.
  • Payment gateway integration, so customers can pay by card on the site.
  • Email marketing and CRM automation, so abandoned interest and repeat customers do not slip away.
  • Membership areas, forms and an analytics dashboard for stores that need them.

What a South African store actually needs

The design is the easy part. The parts that make a store work, and that catch first-time sellers out, are payment, delivery and stock. Before launch you need a local payment gateway, a clear delivery or collection plan, a way to avoid selling what you do not have, and legal pages that cover returns and personal information. Our guide to what it takes to sell online in South Africa goes through each one, and our POPIA website checklist covers the privacy side.

What it costs to run

  • The build: from R22,000 once-off.
  • Product uploads: R15 a product, if you want us to load the catalogue.
  • Payment gateway fees: charged by your gateway on each sale, typically a few percent.
  • Skyline Care: from R2,000 a month, covering small edits, a monthly strategy call, SEO improvements and priority support.
  • Your Wix plan: covers hosting and security and is separate from the build.

Not ready for a full store yet?

If you are taking orders on WhatsApp or Instagram today, a full store may be premature. A Structure site from R9,500 can show your products clearly and route orders through WhatsApp or a form, and you can grow into a full store once the volume justifies it. The project finder will tell you honestly which stage you are at.

Is Wix the right platform for your store?

For most small South African stores, yes. If you plan to list thousands of products with complex variants and stock rules, other platforms such as Shopify or WooCommerce may suit you better, and we will say so before you spend anything. Our comparison of Wix and WordPress explains where each one fits, and our guide to Shopify, Wix and WooCommerce for a South African store compares the three for selling online.

How much does an e-commerce website cost in South Africa?

A GDS online store starts from R22,000 once-off, with product uploads at R15 a product and an optional Skyline Care plan from R2,000 a month. Payment gateway fees are charged per sale by the gateway.

Which payment gateways can my online store use?

South African gateways such as PayFast, Yoco, Peach Payments and Netcash are widely used, and which are available depends on the platform. We confirm the current options when we plan your store and include payment gateway integration in Skyline.

How long does it take to build an online store?

A store typically takes six to twelve weeks, depending on the number of products, the payment setup and any automation. The biggest delays are usually waiting for product photos and descriptions.

Can I start small and add a store later?

Yes. Many businesses start with a Structure site that shows products and takes orders through WhatsApp or a form, then add a full store once demand is proven.

Can you load my products for me?

Yes. Product uploads are R15 a product, so you hand over the details and photos and we set up the catalogue.
